A QUICK OVERVIEW

The Graduate Certificate in Publishing and Editing is open to:

1. Graduate students in any FSU program.

Senior English majors who have earned at least 90 semester hours toward the BA or BS and have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA. Note that undergraduates must first obtain the Registrar’s graduate-course permission form and collect the instructors’ and other indicated signatures before registering for any 5000-level courses. This form needs to be completed well in advance of the first day of class, so students should email faculty members teaching Certificate courses for permission to enroll early on. This process can take time. Some professors may want to meet with the student, see a writing sample, or expect to have taught the student already in an undergraduate course. Graduate students have priority and many courses will fill with graduate students, and other graduate courses may not be appropriate for undergraduates. Paste this link into your browser to download the permission form:  http://registrar.fsu.edu/forms/grad_course_request.pdf

3. Non-degree-seeking writers and editors from the community—including city, county, state, and federal agency or department staff; business and corporate writers; and area freelance authors. These writers must first register as Special Graduate Students. Email or call Sheila Bagley for Special Student registration details: sbagley@fsu.edu. 850.644.7551.

Note: Non-degree-seeking students may request CEU credits instead of regular course credits.

If you are a full-time state employee and receive your supervisor’s approval, the Florida tuition-waiver program enables you to take up to two courses a term at FSU for free. Included are courses for the Certificate, toward academic degree requirements, and for professional enrichment and skill development, generally. Internships and directed individual study courses are, not, however, eligible for tuition waivers under the state’s criteria. Also see the advising note on ENC 5217 under the Sample Courses link for state-waiver and FSU-tuition-waiver students registering for this workshop.
